ABOUT
Dr. José Javier Hernández Ayala, also known as Javi, Javier etc., is a Physical Geographer &Climatologist and Assistant Professor at the Department of Geography, Environment and Planning at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, California. His research focuses on how climate variability and change affect hydro-climatological processes and on their respective impacts to society. Dr. Hernández Ayala has worked as an instructor/professor in four different universities (University of Akron, University of Florida, Texas A&M University and Sonoma State University).
Dr. Hernández Ayala has been working as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Physical & Environmental Geography at Sonoma State University since fall of 2017. At Sonoma State, he teaches courses like Weather & Climate, Watershed Hydrology & Management, Introduction to GIS and Environmental Data Analysis. Dr. Hernández Ayala is also the Research Director of the Climate Research Center at Sonoma State University where he conducts research on topics like extreme rainfall, drought, tropical cyclones and wildfires with students and other faculty. Dr. Hernández Ayala is an active sholar with 9 publications in peer reviewed scientific journals. He's latest project revolves around understanding the oceanic-atmospheric factors that made 2020 the most active hurricane season on record in the North Atlantic Ocean.
